As a retired Special Forces Army Warrant Officer, he brings unmatched experience and a genuinely humble approach to his work, making a lasting difference for military-connected students. Over the past year, Heiko has provided steady guidance and support, with students often asking for him specifically because of his popularity and reliability within the veteran community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heiko\u2019s approach to mentorship goes far beyond typical advising. Meeting regularly with his advisees \u2014 sometimes even weekly \u2014 he helps them set long-term goals and navigate any concerns they have about adjusting to student life. By sharing personalized content and resources, he creates an inviting space where students feel comfortable reaching out, strengthening their connections with him and each other. He\u2019s also committed to breaking down the stigma around veteran identity in higher ed, making both veterans and student dependents feel welcome and understood. Despite his heavy workload pursuing his Master\u2019s in Accounting, Heiko continues to show exceptional dedication to UW-Tacoma\u2019s campus and veteran community. His commitment to growth, learning, and community-building makes him a true role model for his peers and an ideal example of what it means to be an exceptional Peer Advisor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fortunately, we have a wonderful group of student veterans who love supporting us just as much as we love supporting them.
