They are consistently performing outreach and working to connect students with campus resources; efforts that exemplify their dedication to supporting military-affiliated students,\u201d says Emma Czajka, PAVE Program Coordinator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The University at Buffalo PAVE team is small but mighty and is made up of Veteran Services Coordinators Chrissy Walker and Dan Ryan, Team Leader Justin Downey, and Peer Advisors Antwain Palmer and Robert Healy.\u00a0Together they actively serve over 50 of the over 800 military-connected students enrolled at UB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UB PAVE team has built their program with a \u201cquality over quantity\u201d approach to peer support, focusing on making their efforts as meaningful and comprehensive as possible and with great success. Justin was able to share several stories of students that the PAVE team has helped over the life of the program. These examples included helping a student veteran facing homelessness store and move all of their belongings, connecting a student experiencing a mental health crisis with both campus and VA counseling and mental health resources, and helping another student who was struggling financially get set up with work-study and opportunities to earn a steady income. According to Justin, these examples reflect what makes PAVE rewarding for him and the team: \u201cthe individual victories\u2026seeing the students succeed and move beyond PAVE towards graduation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A key component of creating the atmosphere for those successes has been the UB PAVE team\u2019s ability to build a strong community of support around their military-affiliated students.
