Christian Sierra is our Peer Advisor of the Month! Christian served four years in the Navy as an aviation structural mechanic and is now studying French and Philosophy at University of Nevada – Las Vegas. He is preparing to take the LSAT this summer in pursuit of attending law school and becoming a lawyer. Christian is wrapping up his second semester as a Peer Advisor and says, “I love what I do, I love being around the office and being able to be a jack of all trades to help people with things like filling out paper work.” He was nominated by his PAVE Team Leaders, who said, “Christian goes above and beyond the Advisor responsibilities… He was recognized by the MVSC Director as being one the best overall student workers for last semester. He continues to set the standard for all UNLV PAVE Advisors.”
Of his work as a Peer Advisor, Christian mentions the adage “if you do what you love, it won’t feel like work. I’m making all of these interactions with veterans, and I don’t feel like I’m working, I feel like I’m just being myself.” He found it particularly rewarding when a student veteran he helped connect to study groups and tutoring to improve his GPA last semester went on to excel academically and then became a Peer Advisor himself. Talking to Christian, it’s easy to imagine how his warm, easygoing personality would put anyone at ease. This has made him be successful in breaking down walls with student veterans who are initially reluctant to open up and seek help. We’re so glad you are a part of PAVE, Christian!
