From Dwayne Gordon, Interim Director of Veteran Outreach at UNLV: “Rayshawn has started off the Spring 2020 semester in excellent fashion. He has successfully assisted 3 student veterans of concern, that were not a part of his assigned (new) student veterans. The 3 veterans of concern were students who needed emergency assistance. His PAVE experience provided him the knowledge to provide the students with the necessary resources (Student Counseling and Psychological Services, Housing assistance, and Financial Aid). Additionally, his personality helps him connect with his assigned students and he creates a friendly environment that invites his students to reach out if they need assistance. Rayshawn enjoys sharing his knowledge and experience with the team. His passion for the PAVE program continues to increase each semester, as he continues to look for ways to improve and/or better assist transitioning student veterans.”
From Rayshawn Williams: “As a Peer Advisor, I am proud of the successful partnership that has been developing on campus between PAVE and the Urban Affairs School of Social Work. This partnership with practicum students has aided in refining and developing effective strategies, training opportunities, and network expansion to aid in combating the challenges veterans face. This has been done by promoting practice behavior competencies. Addressing practice behaviors pushes the Peer Advisors to challenge and change standards of approach for all Peer Advisors. The best part about being a Peer Advisor is the interaction with veterans and being a resource in the shadows.”
