March 2025 Team Leader of the Month: Marklin Nixon, University of Oregon

From Liz Quintanilla, Team Leader, University of Oregon: “Marklin is always on top of reaching out to students. He is extremely organized and structured when connecting with the students assigned to him. He started as a Peer Advisor and then was asked to co-lead the PAVE Team. His extreme level of detail and willingness to learn and adapt is impeccable. He continues to go above and beyond for his assigned students. He continues to ask questions and learn the ropes. Seeing him grow and achieve what he has achieved has been amazing.”

From Marklin Nixon: “My favorite part of being a Team Leader is getting new students involved in PAVE and the veteran center ecosystem. Many Peer Advisors know how challenging it can be to encourage student participation. But when someone new shows up, keeps coming back, and finds their place in the community, it’s incredibly fulfilling—like welcoming someone home. I’m very proud of our team for organizing a therapy dog session at the University of Oregon Student Veteran Center. There were many new faces at the event from the military-connected community and local student clubs, and it was heartwarming to see the tension melt from their shoulders as they relaxed with some adorable and loving dogs.”
