September 2025 Team Leader of the Month: Annie Smaciarz, Bowling Green State University

From Bryan Bills, Veteran Services Coordinator, Bowling Green State University: “Heading into the Fall 2025 semester, Annie has hit the ground running. From coordinating new orientations for onboarded Peer Advisors to handling outreach to advisees. Annie continues to show effortless leadership potential, and I cannot thank her enough for her dedication. Annie goes out of her way to constantly communicate with the other advisors and with the VSC. I am excited to see where she takes the new team of advisors this semester!”

From Annie Smaciarz: “My favorite part about being a Team Leader is having the opportunity to use my leadership skills to support and guide my team. I genuinely enjoy being someone they can turn to when they’re unsure or need help navigating a situation. It’s especially rewarding to see them grow in confidence and provide meaningful support to their students. Moments like those remind me that the work we’re doing is truly making a positive impact.

Last year was my first semester as a Team Leader, and I’m proud of how smoothly the transition in leadership went. It was incredibly rewarding to see my team continue to support and positively impact students — not only during challenging moments but also through consistent, everyday interactions. This semester, we’ve welcomed four new team members, and I’m already impressed by the potential they bring. They’ve quickly begun building meaningful connections with students and have shown strong communication and collaboration skills within the team. Thanks to their energy and dedication, the semester is off to a strong and promising start.”
