November/December 2025 Peer Advisor of the Month: Gennifer Newby, University of Oregon

From Ethan Bross, Team Leader, University of Oregon: “Gennifer Newby stands out as a Peer Advisor because she combines strong leadership with genuine empathy and approachability. She sets clear expectations, follows through on commitments, and fosters a friendly, inclusive environment where others feel supported and motivated. Her communication is consistent and transparent, and she handles challenges with maturity and composure. Gennifer leads by example, balancing accountability, professionalism, and warmth, which earns her the trust and respect of her team.”

From Gennifer Newby: “I think my work as a Peer Advisor is improving the college experience for my fellow student veterans just by being there and having a presence! It allows them to know that they’re not alone here, and there is a sense of community here. The transition from military to college can be difficult and as a Peer Advisor, we’re here to help out in any way possible. My favorite thing about being a Peer Advisor is meeting new people! I can appreciate hearing everyone’s story of where they came from and how their experience was in the military since it’s so different for everyone!”
