September 2024 Peer Advisor of the Month: Scot Leverson, University of Washington – Tacoma

Smiling man

From Logan Fuchs, Team Leader, University of Oklahoma: “Scot has a large workload outside of being a Peer Advisor and always makes time to assist with planning, events, and helping student veterans. During the summer, he was instrumental in aiding us with the fall orientation even though he was not part of the VA work-study portion on campus. In his free time, he has created and compiled a Sharepoint document for any reference documents, operating procedures, or media to exist for both present and future PAVE team members. Without Scot, the foundation of University of Oklahoma’s PAVE program would not be as solid. Our goal is to maintain an efficient and effective program for future generations and our progress toward that goal rests heavily with Scot Leverson.”

From Steven Fleming, Veteran Services Coordinator, University of Oklahoma: “Scot always has great ideas to help our team be successful. He consistently reaches out to his assigned students, and he is always willing to help with any issues that arise. When he finds issues or trending concerns, he brings them to the attention of the other Peer Advisors so they can double-check with their students as well. Scot is a great team player and deserves to be recognized for his hard work.”

From Scot Leverson: “My favorite part is talking with people from different backgrounds and with different paths in life. I love to hear what people think and why, and there is never a dull moment in conversation. I think by understanding more about people, you make yourself more able to help them. I would say that helping to develop a community here at OU is by far the best contribution I could make. We are making dramatic changes in our lives by pursuing our goals. These kinds of things are never really done alone, you need help from the people around you. I want to make this an organization that vet students want to be a part of and participate in. That way we can help them reach those goals. So, even if I only reach a few people, and even if the best I can do is just listen on a bad day, I think it’s worth it.”
