From Patrick Forystek, Student Veterans Resource Center Coordinator: “Casey reached out over the summer to inquire about a position with our PAVE program. We’re in a transition process where we had to hire an entire new team and Casey’s background was great for a Team Leader. She immediately came in with many fantastic program ideas for this year. Since taking over in July, she has helped to hire and onboard a team of three Peer Advisors, set up a campus guest speaker for January to talk about PTSD and veterans, facilitated a workshop with a psychologist who specializes in military clients, developed and disseminated a newsletter, helped with several SVRC projects, and is working with our writing center on book clubs and resume workshops. She’s the type of Team Leader who, if I had the budget, would hire to be a SVRC coordinator in a heartbeat. On top of all of that, she recently finished her bachelors degree and is starting an MS in criminal justice this semester, is running cross country at MSU, and is a Sergeant in the Michigan Army National Guard. She’s absolutely crushing everything. She is also a featured student as part of our Veterans Day fundraiser.”

From Casey Mossholder: “My team has helped student veterans understand how to use their resources this semester. We’ve also worked with local veteran leaders to talk about mental health and continuously encouraged student vets to reach out and use their resources. We’ve collaborated with the SVRC and other veteran groups on campus to provide greater involvement and opportunities. Some of our upcoming events involve veteran leaders in the community and around the world, including a local Vietnam veteran who built a memorial in downtown Lansing and a Canadian Armed Forces veteran. My favorite part of being a team leader is bringing student veterans together and creating greater involvement in the community.”
