May 2017 Peer Advisor of the Month: Carmen Shumate, Colorado State University

Photo of CarmenCarmen Shumate of Colorado State University is the Peer Advisor of the Month! Carmen is studying biology with a focus on anatomy and zoology. Once she finishes her Bachelor’s degree, she plans to attend veterinary school. CSU Team Leader Laura Feger nominated Carmen, saying, “She’s on top of her logging. She’s always asking questions and reaching out for assistance when she needs it. She is the perfect example of what an advisor should be.”

Carmen says she’s been touched by the stories from some of the student veterans at CSU about the struggle they’ve gone through to get the help and resources they need. She has enjoyed being able to give her time and help out where she can as a Peer Advisor. Something she’s noticed when communicating with the student veterans she’s assigned to is how helpful keeping an upbeat attitude is, saying, “Try to maintain that happy perspective, because it’s contagious.” We are glad to have you with the program, Carmen!
