January 2019 Peer Advisor of the Month: Tanner Calhoun, University of Colorado – Denver

Photo of Tanner CalhounTanner Calhoun of the University of Colorado Denver is our Peer Advisor of the Month! A Marine Corps veteran, Tanner proudly served his country as an active duty small arms technician for 4 years before finding his way to Colorado where he is double majoring in Finance and Risk Management. Tanner’s willingness to provide support as a Peer Advisor has allowed him to not only positively impact student veterans who cross his path, it’s also helped him hone in on his future goals and endeavors.

He’s quick to point out the impact serving as a Peer Advisor has had on him and how he thinks the program enriches the student veterans at CU Denver: “It’s a humbling experience that rewards you just in the fact that you’re putting yourself out there to help people. It strengthens that sense of community, but it also helps to show other veterans that you can assimilate into the civilian community and still be a veteran but know that you’re opening a new chapter in your life instead of just holding on to that military experience.”

“Tanner has consistently proven himself to be a committed and exceptional Peer Advisor,” said Rachael Burnett, CU Denver’s PAVE Team Leader. “Tanner is a true advocate and leader among his military family. He represents PAVE, service members, and the University of Colorado Denver proudly.” You are a true asset to the PAVE family, Tanner!
