From Maria Kalnbach, Nontraditional and Veteran Student Engagement and Success Coordinator: “Mia McCall holds many identities, including student veteran, mom to two young boys, spouse to a student veteran, and a military brat. It is because of these many identities that Mia is a natural and empathetic leader. She served as a Peer Advisor before stepping into the role of Team Leader one year ago. Since then, she has worked to mentor the Peer Advisors and work collaboratively with her co-Team Leader to create a cohesive team. As our Student Veteran Center digital marketing specialist, Mia creates social media posts to communicate both the important resources on and off campus, and ways for student veterans to come together as a community.”
From Mia McCall: “I became a Team Leader near the beginning of the COVID outbreak and things transitioning to a virtual environment. This obviously caused there to be many obstacles for my team. I am incredibly proud of their hard work, resilience, and ability to adapt to our ever-changing working environment. We have put together a great number of events, both virtually and in-person, that have successfully connected incoming student veterans. I honestly can’t express enough how grateful I am for this team. My favorite part about being a Team Leader is having a hand in helping our community grow and change. I not only have the pleasure of watching my team grow as leaders, but I also get to welcome new members to our university’s community. It feels incredibly fulfilling to be a part of something bigger than myself.”
